An upcoming event, “What is Black III: Colorism and Its Impact on Communities of Color,” will explore racism and tools of resilience. There will be a screening of the documentary, Dark Girls, followed by a talkback and healing circle. The film explores racism around complexion and the effect it has on Black women’s self-image. Participants will discuss deep-seated biases and attitudes about skin color outside and within Black culture in the U.S. Through conversations and healing work, together, the group will address contemporary issues like bullying, skin bleaching, and colorism on social media.
It is hosted by South Florida People of Color in association with the Association of Black Psychology-South Florida Chapter.
