ATLANTA, Ga. -- Amanda Moore (Sr., St. Louis, Mo.) and Maile Keeney (Jr., Longwood, Fla.) slugged home runs to lead the Barry University softball team (18-4) a decisive 18-0 win over the Clark Atlanta Panthers (6-14) on Friday afternoon at Panther Field.
The Buccaneers jumped out in front early scoring three runs in the first and never looked back. Keeney belted a solo homer in the second and two batters later, Moore hit a two-run dinger to extend Barry's lead to 7-0. The Bucs added five more in the third, one in the fourth and five in the fifth for the 18-0 routing of the Panthers.
Amber Jack (Fr., Homestead, Fla.) went three innings, allowed one hit, walked one and struck out five to pick up her sixth win of the season, while Liz Bennett (Jr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) pitched the final two innings of shutout relief. Cache'ten Barrett (2-7) gave up 18 runs (15 earned), on 18 hits and walked five in the Panther loss.
Moore's two-run homer in the second inning was the 23rd of her career as she continued extend her reign atop of Barry's all-time career home run leader list.
Cristina DeTagle (So., North Miami Beach, Fla.) went four-for-four and scored four runs to lead Barry at the plate. Jack was the only other batter to be perfect at the plate going three-for-three on the day. Shyla Rider (Fr., Woodbridge, Va.), Ashley Loose (Jr., Mill Creek, Wash.) and Keeney each added four RBI, while Loose also stretched her current hit streak to seven games.
The Buccaneers will wrap up their spring break trip on Saturday, Mar. 11 with another South Region doubleheader against West Georgia at 11 am. The Buccaneers have already defeated the Braves once this season 5-0 at the UAH Charger Chillout.
