Men's Basketball Celebrates Region Ranking With Win

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers celebrated their number five regional ranking with a 69-58 win over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish in the Health & Sports Center Wednesday night.

The Bucs, who moved from seven to five in the NCAA Division II South Region poll released earlier in the afternoon, rode the strong play of senior Felipe Barrios to the win Barrios led all players with 20 points and 14 rebounds.

The Bucs jumped out to a 17-4 lead in the first 5:05. Amadou Fall had seven points, including a three-pointer, in the run. The Bucs carried a 38-30 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, Bryan Chiverton capped a 9-3 run to start the period with a steal and a dunk to give Barry a 47-33 lead, their biggest of the game. The Sailfish never got closer than seven the rest of the way.

In addition to Barrios, Fall had 14 points and Eddie Young chipped in 13. Rudy Buzzard led the Sailfish with 12 points, while Sean Tucker had 11 and Manny Lopez added 10.

The Bucs travel to Lakeland, Fla., to face the Florida Southern Moccasins on Saturday, Feb. 10 before retuning to the HSC on Valentine’s Day to host the Florida Tech Panthers.
