WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Barry University women’s tennis team had a strong showing at the C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational with Greta Trotman and Ildiko Csordas advancing to the championship round. Helen Wisiniewski and Ana Maria Zuleta eliminated in the semifinals. In doubles action, none of the Buccaneer tandems progressed past the second round.
Trotman reached the finals after upsetting #1 seed Emese Sulyos of Jacksonville University 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals. Csordas defeated #4 seed Pam Fernandez of the University of Central Florida 6-3, 6-3 before squaring off against fellow Buc, Zuleta and defeating her 6-3, 6-2 in the semifinals. Zuleta had a strong showing as she beat #2 seed Mila Milovanovic of Stetson University in convincing fashion 6-2, 6-3. Wisiniewski fell short of reaching the Flight B finals as Weronika Lomacka of Florida Southern 4-6, 6-1, (11-9).
Trotman and Csordas squared off at Barry University on October 19th, with Csordas defeating Trotman 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-1.
