Buccaneers Pick Up Five All-SSC Selections
Emele Karlsson picked up her fourth consecutive SSC Offensive Player of the Year Award
MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Barry University placed five members on the 2005 All-Sunshine State Conference women’s soccer team, with Emelie Karlsson being honored as Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year. It marked the third time that Karlsson was named SSC Player of the Year and fourth consecutive time for SSC Offensive Player of the Year.
 
First-team All-SSC selections included forwards Karlsson, Shelby Kuni (Tampa) and Samantha Robinson (Tampa); midfielders Kim Pyra (Lynn),  Tiina Saario (Barry) and Daniela Tjeder (Barry); defenders Winskas, Rebecca McCray (Lynn) and Jane Seedhouse (Saint Leo); goalkeeper Shannon Aitken (Tampa); and at-large selection Elisa Pirenen (Barry).
 
Among the second-team All-SSC selections were forwards Shurell Burton (Nova Southeastern), Brittney Evans (Tampa) and Kelli Huarte (Florida Tech); midfielders Whitney Chamberlin (Rollins), Bridget Penta (Lynn) and Stephanie Quinones (Nova Southeastern); defenders Maria Mohammed (Tampa), Nicole Murphy (Tampa) and Allison Tradd (Rollins); goalkeeper Lauren Hudson (Saint Leo); and at-large selection Tiffany Rolfing (Barry).
 
Karlsson, a senior from Helsinki, Finland, is one of the most decorated women’s soccer players in SSC history.  She is a three-time SSC Player of the Year recipient, having previously won the award as a freshman and sophomore, while also earning SSC Offensive Player of the Year honors for the fourth consecutive season.  Entering the 2005 NCAA tournament, Karlsson leads the SSC with 19 goals, 47 total points and six game-winning goals, while ranking third with nine assists.  Nationally, Karlsson ranks ninth in points per game (2.76) and 11th in goals per game (1.12).  She will end her career as the SSC all-time leader in every offensive statistical category, as she currently tops the conference charts with 72 goals, 52 assists, 196 points and 25 game-winning goals.  Her play has led the Barry (13-2-2, 7-1 SSC) to the #14 ranking in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) Division II poll and an NCAA Division II record 18th appearance in the national tournament.
