Volleyball Lands Four On All-SSC Team

ORLANDO, Fla. – Four members of the Barry University volleyball team received honors on the 2005 Volleyball All-Sunshine State Conference team. Two were First-Team selections, while one earned SSC Honorable Mention honors and one was named to the SSC All-Freshman team.

Sunshine State Conference champion University of Tampa and NCAA Championship participant Florida Southern College placed an SSC-best five players each on the 2005 All-SSC volleyball team. NCAA Championship participants Rollins College and Barry University placed four players and three players, respectively, on the team, while Florida Tech and Lynn University each claimed one spot.

Tampa led the way with three first-team selections, followed by Barry with two and Florida Southern and Lynn with one first-team honoree apiece.

Along with the All-Conference teams, major individual awards winners were also named. Tampa’s Ericka Womack was recognized as the SSC Player of the Year, Florida Southern’s Danielle Durham was named SSC Freshman of the Year and Florida Southern’s Jill Stephens was selected SSC Coach of the Year. Voting for the All-Conference team and the individual award winners was conducted among SSC volleyball coaches and sports information directors.

Comprising the All-SSC first team were Womack, outside hitter Theresa Daniels (Lynn), middle hitter Samara de Freitas (Barry), outside hitter Stephanie Rivera (Tampa), setter Michele Rosamiglia (Barry), libero Margeaux Sinibaldi (Tampa) and outside hitter Beverly Stasis (Florida Southern).

Second team selections were defensive specialist Kim Cline (Rollins), middle hitter Kelly Currin (Florida Tech), outside hitter Katelen Dixon (Tampa), opposite/rightside Rachelle Konczal (Florida Southern), setter Jordan McAfee (Florida Southern), outside hitter Kayla Mora (Tampa) and middle blocker Allison North (Rollins).

Five players received honorable mention including Durham, libero Daryl Baby (Florida Southern), outside hitter Julia Caner (Rollins), middle hitter Kelly Dantas (Barry) and outside hitter Lorena Orlandini (Rollins).

A seven person all-freshman team was also selected. Student-athletes from seven different institutions were represented among the all-freshman selections, which included Durham, outside hitter Erin Lyngse (Lynn), setter Lacey Malarky (Rollins), middle blocker Leah Melton (Eckerd), libero Spenser Rigg (Barry), setter Gabriela Saade (Tampa) and outside hitter Audrey Starkebaum (Saint Leo).
