DAVIE, Fla.--The Barry Buccaneers lost a 71-70 heartbreaker to the Nova Southeastern Sharks in George Mayer Gym on Wednesday night in Sunshine State Conference men's basketball action.
The Bucs led 67-66 with 0:57 to play when Felipe Barrios was whistled for an offensive foul. Arguing the call, head coach Cesar Odio was tagged with a technical and NSU's Oresti Nitsios hit both free to give the Sharks their first lead of the half. With 0:21 left, Tim Coenraad hit a driving layup to put Nova up 70-67 and Traavis Chandler hit one of two from the line to make it a four-point game.
Phil Puccia answered with a three-pointer to trim the lead to 71-70, but the Bucs could not convert, even after the Sharks turned the ball over on the in-bounds play.
Puccia led Barry with 21 points, while Melvin Triche added 19. Rhys Martin had 18 for Nova, while Luis Gurrieres added 13 and Nitsios had 11.
The Bucs return to the Health & Sports Center on Saturday, Jan. 14 to host the Florida Southern Mocs at 4:00 pm.
