WEST WINDSOR, N.J. -- Barry University's Varsity 8+ crew finished sixth in the nation Sunday, wrapping up its final race in the three-day NCAA Division II Women's Rowing National Championships.
Ranked eighth in the country in the most recent CRCA/U.S. Rowing Coaches poll, the Buccaneers 8 crew of coxswain Grace Horwitz, stroke Kristina Boncheva, Kelly Harrison, Renee Forcier, Helene Pierre, Mandy Carper, Samantha McKenzie, Courtney Greene and Rebekah Kilroy completed the Petite Final 2,000-meter course at Lake Mercer in 7:06.90. Central Oklahoma finished ahead of the Bucs in 7:03.77 to place fifth.
Barry's time was seven-tenths of a second faster than the Bucs' crew rowed in Saturday's semifinals.
Humboldt State won the title with a time of 6:48.84 in the Grand Final. Western Washington was second in 6:50.45, Nova Southeastern third in 6:51.89 and Mercyhurst fourth in 6:57.29.
