NEW YORK -- Barry University women's golf team is ranked No. 4 in the Golf World/Women's Golf Coaches Association poll.
The Buccaneers, who opened the season with a No. 7 ranking in the NCAA Division II Golfweek poll, finished second at their season-opening event, eight strokes behind Lynn at the Division II Preview at LPGA International in Daytona Beach. The tournament was halted short by rain after two rounds. It was originally scheduled for three.
Nova Southeastern, a three-time NCAA champ, is ranked No. 1 in the WGCA poll, followed by St. Edward's (Texas) and Lynn. Rollins is fifth, giving the Sunshine State Conference four teams in the top five.
Florida Southern is sixth, followed by Grand Canyon (Ariz.), Tarleton State (Texas), California (Penn.) and Newberry to occupy the seventh through 10th spots.
Seven SSC teams are ranked in the top 14 teams.
Barry will compete in Nova Southeastern's Shark Invitational at PGA National Golf Club in Palm Beach Gardens Monday and Tuesday.
