WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Barry's No. 1-ranked men's golf team is in 10th place out of 18 teams after the first day at the McDonough Cup hosted by Rollins College Monday.
The Buccaneers shot 303-300 -- 603 to fall one stroke behind a pack of four teams tied for sixth. Nova Southeastern leads the event on the 7,001-yard, par-72 Rio Pinar Country Club with a second round composite score of 585. Lynn is second, two strokes behind the Sharks, and Florida Southern third at 593.
Senior Simon Forsslund is tied for 19th after shooting a team-best 75-74 -- 149 in his first appearance of the season. Bucs teammate Scott Smyers is tied for 31st, two strokes behind Forsslund, following his 76-75 -- 151 first day.
Rollins' Davis Hall shot 72-72 -- 144 to grab a share of the lead with Nova's Ben Taylor and Mount Olive's Mark O'Hara, who followed up his opening-round 73 with a 1-under 71 in the second.
Barry's Berry Jole shot 78-75 -- 153, and is tied for 41st. Marcus Segerstrom tied for 49th at 74-80 -- 154. Jared Dalga shot 83-76 -- 159.
Georgia College, Columbus State, Florida Tech and Rollins all are tied in the cluster ahead of Barry.
The tournament concludes with third-round coverage Tuesday. This marks the final event of the fall season for the Buccaneers, who have already won one tournament and claimed the runner-up trophy in two others.
