SALEM, Va.—The awards keep on coming for Barry senior Sarah Broeseker as she picked up two All-America commendations for her play this year. She was named a Second-Team At-Large selection by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and a Third-Team selection at third base by Daktronics. Keystone mate Kelly Martinez received a Third-Team selection by the NFCA at second base.
Broeseker, the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year, led the league in batting at .415 and was second in on-base and slugging percentage. She led the Bucs with 21 extra-base hits (14 doubles, four triples and three homers), 37 RBI and 35 runs scored. She walked 22 times against just 15 strikeouts and committed only six errors while splitting time between third and the outfield. She finished her career ranked in the top 10 of 15 offensive categories.
Martinez had a breakout year for the Bucs. After hitting just .214 as a freshman last year, she batted .371 and was second on the team with 16 extra-base hits (12 doubles, four homers). She drove in 31 runs and scored 25. Good on the base paths, she wiped 13 bases in 16 attempts. Starting 52 of 54 games at second base, she committed just seven errors. She will return in 2014 as a two-year starter at the keystone position.
