MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers snapped a three-game winless streak with a 4-1 drubbing of the Flagler Saints in men’s soccer action at Buccaneer Field on Saturday night.
After a tight first few minutes, the Bucs (5-3-1) finally connected with a great ball movement. Tommy Nodland took control on the left side of the penalty box and passed over to Henry Apaloo at the op of the box in the 23rd minute. Apaloo slotted a pass over to a streaking Mark Kilpatrick who came in unmarked and ripped a shot to the far post of the first goal.
The single goal held up to halftime. Early in the second half, Apaloo fed a ball deep into the right corner to Vuk Kojic who crossed it to Marcus Reynolds at the top of the six-yard box for the goal and the eventual game-winner.
Kojic knocked in a goal of his own in the 59th minute. The Saints played around with the ball inside the penalty area and Kojic picked off a clearance and scored to the near post.
In the 62nd minute, Marcus Intek got the Saints (0-7-1) on the board. The Bucs mishandled a clearance and Intek ran on and blasted a 40-yard shot into the upper left hand corner.
Kojic put a capper on the night in the 80th minute. Apaloo fed a ball up the middle to Reynolds who ripped a shot off Saints’ keeper Josiah Holtz. Kojic collected the rebound and fed a shot into the lower left corner.
Devala Gorrick earned his fourth win in goal, making six saves for the Bucs. Holtz took the loss for the Saints, also making six saves before giving way in goal to Zach Volpi who had one save in just over 10 minutes of play.
The Bucs host the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Wednesday, Sept. 26 at 7:00 pm at Buccaneer Field.
