WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Camilla Pagnan (Jr., Morro da Fumaca, Brazil) recorded a match-high 26 kills and added 13 digs to lead the Barry University volleyball team (10-15) to a 3-1 win over the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish (12-14) in non-conference action on Friday night at Rubin Arena. The Buccaneers won by game scores of 25-30, 30-21, 30-25, and 30-26.

Along the way, two Buccaneers set personal best performances. Caitlin Shawver recorded a career-best 19 kills and a blazing .452 clip. After setting a career-high 32 digs against Nova Southeastern on Wednesday, Lauren Evans followed up with a 29-dig performance against the Sailfish giving her 457 on the season. She broke her own single-season dig record set last season at 439.

In the first game, the Buccaneers looked sluggish and as a result dropped the first set 30-25. However, a different team took the court in the final three games. After the first 14 points of game two, the Buccaneers began to inch their way out in front. After hitting a whopping .410 team percentage, Barry pulled off a convincing 30-21 win to even the match at one game apiece.

In the final two games, Barry hit a combined .315 team percentage two win by scores of 30-25 and 30-26 to end a two match losing streak.

Pagan’s 26-kill, 13-dig performance paced the Buccaneers in the win, but it was a well-balanced team effort that contributed to the win. Shawver added career-bests 19 kills and a .452 hitting percentage, while Stefanie Sveiven recorded 11 kills. Maria Romanowski finished just two assists shy of her personal best with 64 and guided the Bucs to a .294 hitting percentage for the match to the Sailfish’s .169 team percentage.

Defensively, the Buccaneers were paced by Evans’ 29 dig effort, which was the second-highest single match total for her career. Romanowski collected 16 digs adding to her assists total for the double-double, while Julie Priester followed with 12 digs. Samara Ferreira and Sveiven each had three blocks.

Brittany Erickson, Ali Mitchel, Bia Santos, and Kristina Carroll each recorded 11 kills to lead Palm Beach Atlantic. Mitchell and Santo added 14 and 10 digs respectively for double-double performances, while Jennifer Eldridge added 13 digs. Setter Emily Ryerson dished out a team-high 42 assists.

The Buccaneers will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 27 hosting Lynn in Sunshine State Conference action at the Health & Sports Center at 2 pm.
