Men's Golf Finishes Tied for 5th St. Edward's Invite
Carols Velez finished tied for 12th out of 77 individuals to lead the Buccaneers to a fifth-place finish with an 11-over-par score of 224.
Final Round
AUSTIN, Texas – After finishing second a year previously, the Barry University men’s golf (+48) finished tied for fifth out of 14 teams to conclude play at the St. Edward’s Invitational in Austin. The Buccaneers fired a three-round score of 900 (288-295-306) on the 6,791 yard, par-71 Circle “C” golf course.
 
Central Oklahoma (+40) finished at the tournament team champion with a three-round score of 892, while host St. Edward’s (+44) finished second with a score of 896. Cameron (+46) finished third and Abilene Christian (+47) turned in a fourth-place finish. Barry (+48) finished just eight strokes behind the tournament leader and was tied with Southeastern Oklahoma State (+48) to round out the top five.
 
Barry’s Carlos Velez (+11) fired rounds of 74, 75 and 75 and finished with a three-round score of 224 and T12 to lead the Barry squad. First day team leader, Victor Billskoog (+12) finished T15 after a disappointing 79 in the final round. Freshmen Michael Rafalowicz (+17) and Chris Carlin (+18) finished T30 and T41 respectively, while Matt Jonah (+19) rounded out the Buccaneer five T46 out of 77 individuals.
 
Northeastern State’s Sam Powel (E) fired an even-par 213 score to finish as the tournament individual medalist.
 
The Buccaneers will return to action at the Braveheart Classic in Beaumont, Calif. Mar. 3-4 hosted at the Oak Valley golf course.
 
Rounds 1 & 2
AUSTIN, Texas – The Barry University men’s golf team is currently third out of 14 teams at the St. Edwards Invitational after the first two rounds on Monday. The Buccaneers are on pace for a repeat of last year’s second place finish after a two-round score of 594 (299-295) on the 6,791 yard, par 72 Circle “C” golf course.
 
Two teams out of Oklahoma, Cameron and Central Oklahoma (+24), are currently pacing the field of 14 teams with identical scores of 592 after two rounds.  Barry (+26) is third, while host St. Edward’s (+27) is currently fourth with a two-round 595 score. Southeastern Oklahoma State (+30) rounded out the top five.
 
Barry’s Victor Billskoog opened with a strong seventh place finish out of 77 individuals to pace the Buccaneers. He fired a 75 in the opening round, but finished with an even-par 71 in the second to finish with a two-round 146 (+4) with one more to go on Tuesday. Chris Carlin (+6) finished two strokes behind Billskoog with a score of 148 and tied for 10th, while Carlos Velez (+7) finished T15 with a two-round 149. Michael Rafalowicz (+12) finished T42 and Matt Jonah (+14) rounded out the Buccaneer five T53.
 
Northeastern State’s Sam Powell (-2) finished with a two-under-par score of 140 to finish the first day as the tournament individual leader.
 
The final round will be an 8 am shotgun start on Monday.
