WINTER PARK, Fla.—The seventh-ranked Barry Buccaneers floated past the tenth-ranked Rollins Tars 7-2 at the Bert Martin Tennis Complex on Saturday.
The Bucs (7-1, 4-0 SSC) swept through the doubles. Ales Svigelj and Patrick Rittenauer knocked off the 13th-ranked duo of Brian Compton and Jonathan Gomez 8-5 at number one, while Jakub Fejfar and Emmanuel Fraitzl defeated Gustavo Carvalho and Pablo Seijo by the same score. At number three, Andrew Sharnov and Roman Werschel made it a clean sweep with an 8-2 win over Adrian Tan and Bill Rockwood.
Singles proved to be much harder sailing for the Bucs, however. Manuel Lauter quickly made it 4-0 Barry with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Austin Duvall at number six. But every other flight went to three sets.
The Tars (4-2, 1-1 SSC) took home their only two points at the top two flights. Compton defeated Svigelj 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 at number one, while Gomez took out Weschel 7-5, 2-6, 6-0 at number two.
At number three, the Bucs were bolstered by the return of Rittenauer, who had yet to play a singles match this year. He rebounded from a first-set loss to beat Tan 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 to clinch the match for the Bucs. Sharnov and Fejfar added third-set wins to complete the match.
The Bucs will face off against third-ranked West Florida at Rollins’ courts on Sunday, Mar. 2, before returning home on Monday to take on the Georgetown Hoyas.
