MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry men’s tennis team (9-3) fell to the NAIA top-ranked Auburn-Montgomery Senators 6-3 at the Buccaneer Tennis Center on Thursday.
Doubles were tightly contested. At number one, the Senators’ fifth-ranked team of Victor Sanakai Papi and Daniel Plasa defeated Patrick Rittenauer and Emmanuel Fraitzl 8-2. The Bucs’ Jakub Fejfar and Roman Werschel evened the match with an 8-5 win over Alberto Romea and Francisco Redondo at number two. The swing match went to the Senators (12-0), 9-7 at number three, as Monte Tucker and Nikola Miskovic out-lasted Andrew Sharnov and Christoph Gayer.
In singles, NAIA second-ranked Sanakai Papi defeated Rittenauer 6-4, 6-2 at the top flight and Plasa, ranked seventh, defeated Fraitzl 6-2, 6-1.
The third and fourth flights both went to three sets. AUM’s Romea defeated Werschel 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 at number three, but Sharnov got even with Redondo 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 at number four.
At five, NAIA number four-ranked Mudrick defeated Fefjar 7-5, 6-2, but Manuel Lauter closed out the match for the Bucs with a win, 6-2, 6-2, over Miskovic.
The Bucs will host the Flagler Saints on Saturday, Mar. 15 at 10:00 am at the Buccaneer Tennis Center.
