MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—John Servidio homered and drove in four runs to lead the Barry Buccaneers over the Merrimack Warriors 14-6 in baseball action at Feinbloom Field on Tuesday night.
With the scored tied at 5-5 in the sixth inning, the Bucs (21-9) scored twice to take the lead for good. Yudelmis Hernandez singled up the middle off Warrior starter Josh Sohn (0-2). Mitch Rodriguez came on to run and was balked to third base by Sohn. Manny Pedrozo lifted a sacrifice fly to right to score Rodriguez. Brett Rossi followed with one of his game-high four hits and, after a steal of second, came in on a single by Nick Shaw for a 7-5 lead.
The Warriors (2-9) struck first in the second inning, when Mike Coppinger scored on a dropped fly ball.
The Bucs tallied three runs in the third. Rossi singled and stole second and Shaw followed with a walk. Evan Ashley singled to right center to score Rossi. Shaw scored on an error by third baseman Mike Andre and Frezza, who reached on the error, scored on a sacrifice fly by Servidio.
In the fourth, the Warriors took a 5-3 lead, aided by a pair of Barry errors. Mike Chandler delivered a two-run double in the frame.
In the fifth, the Bucs knotted the game at 5-5. After a single by Shaw and double from Frezza, Servidio ripped a single up the middle to score both runners.
After the Bucs took the lead for good in the sixth, Chandler belted his first homer of the season in the seventh inning, a solo shot to left.
Servidio got the run back in the bottom of the inning when he hit his team-leading 11th homer of the season over the center field wall. Carlos Gomez and Rossi added RBI singles and two more runs came in on another throwing error by Andre.
In addition to Rossi’s four hits, Shaw added three, while Frezza, Servidio and Hernandez each had two. Shaw, Rossi, Rodriguez and Pedrozo each scored twice, while Shaw and Rossi also drove in two. Chandler led the Warriors with three RBI and had two hits along with Jeff Bercume and Dustin Sullivan.
Aaron Main (5-2) picked up the win for the Buccaneers. He worked four innings in relief of starter Brian Mastin, allowing five runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks with one strikeout. Sohn took the loss for Merrimack. In six innings, he allowed seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits and a walk.
The Bucs travel to Melbourne, Fla., on Friday and Saturday, Mar. 28-29 to face the Florida Tech Panthers in a Sunshine State Conference series.
