MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Mitch Rodriguez singled in Evan Ashley with the game-winning run in the 10th inning of game one and the Barry Buccaneers went on to sweep the Eckerd College Tritons in a Sunshine State Conference baseball doubleheader 13-12 and 11-3 on Saturday at Feinbloom Field.

With the Bucs (26-10, 8-4 SSC) trailing 12-11 heading into the bottom of the 10th inning of game one, Yudelmis Hernandez and Manny Pedrozo hit back-to-back doubles with one out to tie the game. After Pedrozo was thrown out at the plate trying to score on Ashley’s single, Rodriguez came through with a single to right center to score Ashley with the game winner.

Brian Milanes (4-3) came on in relief and picked up the win for the Bucs. He worked 2.1 innings allowing a run on two hits and struck out three.

The game was an old fashioned college baseball slugfest as the teams combined for 41 hits and 25 runs.

The Bucs jumped out to a 6-1 lead after three innings. Andrew Frezza got the Bucs on the board in the first inning with a two-run homer in the first. But the Tritons (12-26, 2-13 SSC) chipped back and took a 10-9 lead in the eighth inning on Tyler Howard’s two-run homer.

In the bottom of the eighth, Triton reliever Tony Capoverdi (1-3) hit Andrew Frezza to lead off the inning and John Servidio followed with his team-leading 13th homer of the season to give the Bucs an 11-10 lead.

The Tritons tied the game in the ninth. Chris Clinton lead off with a single and was sacrificed to second. After a line out, he stole third and came in when third baseman Carlos Gomez bobbled the throw.

In the 10th, Matt Abraham hit a solo homer to give the Tritons a short-lived 12-11 lead.

Capoverdi took the loss for Eckerd. He surrendered four runs on 10 hits in 3.2 innings and struck out two.

In the second game, the Bucs struck early and often and went on to the 11-3 win. The Bucs built a 6-0 lead in the first three innings. Gomez and Pedrozo each hit homers.

Up 6-3 heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, the Bucs hit back-to-back-to-back homers from Gomez, Hernandez and Pedrozo.

Aaron Main (6-2) went 2.2 scoreless innings in relief of Mike Tomoleoni to pick up the win. He allowed one hit and one walk and struck out one. Anthony Katchuk (2-4) took the loss for the Tritons. He gave up eight runs on nine hits and six walks in 3.1 innings.

The Bucs travel to Nova Southeastern on Tuesday, Apr. 8 to take on the Sharks at the NSU Baseball Complex at 6:00 pm.
