Men's Tennis Shuts Out Rattlers

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The fifth-ranked Barry University men’s tennis team (15-3) picked up a 9-0 win over the St. Mary’s (Texas) Rattlers 9-0 on Saturday morning at the Clarence Mabry Tennis Complex to close out a perfect 3-0 weekend on the road.

 

Roman Werschel and Christoph Gayer teamed up at the top doubles flight for a dominating 8-0 win over the Andrea Guerrero/Russell Stowers tandem, while Jakub Fejfar and Emannauel Fraitzl won 8-4 at #2 over Rodrigo Lacayo and Troy Neighbors. Manuel Lauter and Andrew Sharnov won 8-6 at the bottom flight to allow Barry to carry a 3-0 lead into singles competition.

 

Lauter ended first with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the bottom flight over Stowers, while 25-ranked Patrick Rittenauer won 6-0, 6-1 at the top flight over Lacayo. Gayer secured the match victor with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Villareal at #5 singles.

 

Playing out the rest of the singles matches, Werschel and Sharnov posted 6-1, 6-2 wins at #2 and #3 singles over Neighbors and Guerrero respectively, while Fejfar secured the shutout with a 6-4, 6-1 win at #4 over Vitas Van Dijk.

 

The Buccaneers will return to action on Wednesday, Apr. 9 hosting top-ranked Armstrong Atlantic at the Buccaneer Tennis Center at 3 pm.
