ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers scuttled the Eckerd Tritons 5-2 in Sunshine State Conference men’s soccer action at EC’s North Soccer Field on Saturday.
Barry freshman Mark Anderson had his first career hat-trick, while Vuk Kojic scored the first goal of the game and Pedro Petris got the game-winner in the 62nd minute.
Kojic put the Bucs (9-1-0, 2-1-0 SSC) on the board in the sixth minute, heading home a corner kick from Andres Perez.
Anthony Arico answered for Eckerd (7-4-0, 1-2-0 SSC) in the 30th minute on the same kind of play, heading the ball past Buccaneer keeper Devala Gorrick off a corner kick from Colin Kuhn.
Anderson sent the Bucs into the intermission with a lead, taking a pass from Sacsha Koettig and dribbling through the defense to score in the 40th minute.
In the second half, Petris took a pass from Anderson at the top of the 18-yard box, cut pastthe defense and blasted a shot past Triton keeper Domenic Spedaliere for what would turn out to be the game-winner at the 61:07 mark.
About a minute later, the pair again hooked up to score, this time with Petris feeding Anderson in the box, who then beat Spedaliere to the bottom right.
In the 66th minute, Spedaliere took out a Barry attacker on a breakaway and was sent off. Anderson converted the penalty against reserve keeper Lincoln Andres-Beck to make it 5-1 Barry.
But despite being down a man, the Tritons managed to shut out the Bucs the rest of the way and scratch another goal in the 82nd minute when Greg Cavallini scored off a pass from Luke Sheekey.
Gorrick picked up the win in goal for the Bucs, improving to 9-1 on the season by making six saves. Spedaliere had four saves for the Tritons.
Anderson extended his school-record streak to nine straight games with a goal, figuring in six of the Bucs’ seven goals on the week.
The Bucs travel over to Nova Southeastern on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7:00 pm to face the Sharks in their next match.
