MIAMI SHORES, Fla.— The Barry University women’s tennis team was handed its second loss of the season on Monday, losing to Division I University of Detroit Mercy 4-5.
The Bucs picked up one of the doubles matches with a win by Angie Werschel and Yulia Kashelkina over Annie Moore and Zaljka Minic 8-4 in the number one spot.
Caroline Wendling and Lamie Contreras lost to Svetlana Flankova and Sophie Sjoberg-Sundstrom 8-4 in the number two spot while Mei-Jing Ang and Julie Cadet lost to Aneta Maricevic and Erin Weldon 8-1 in the number three spot.
The Bucs took three of the six singles matches, winning the top three. Werschel beat Moore in the number one spot, 6-1, 6-7 (5), 6-2. Kashelkina won the number two spot, beating Minic 6-0, 4-6, 6-2. In the number three spot Wendling beat Maricevic 6-3, 6-1 in the number three spot.
The Bucs return to action on Monday, Mar 9 against Division I Temple.
