MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – After the Barry University baseball team got behind early, six-runs over the next two innings helped get the Bucs rolling, as they defeated Saint Leo, 14-6, Friday night in Sunshine State Conference action.

Barry (28-4, 9-1 SSC) countered the Lions’ solo home run in the top of the first with three runs in the bottom of the frame, with the big blow coming off the bat of Yudelmis Hernandez. His two-run double down the left field line put Barry up 3-1.

Danny Lima and Yan Gomes went back-to-back in the second inning to increase the lead to five.

With Saint Leo (13-25, 4-9 SSC) still within striking distance at 7-4, Barry put the game away in the sixth.

Gomes doubled home a pair to start the inning and Joel Keefe helped complete the six-run sixth with a two-run double to right-center to put the game out of reach.

Gomes and Lima each tallied three hits on the night. Hernandez added 3 RBI and Mitch Rodriguez and Keefe tallied 2 RBI a piece.

Bobby Hernandez lasted seven innings to record his fifth win of the season. Cam Fisher pitched a solid two innings in relief, allowing just one earned run to complete the victory.

Barry will continue their series with Saint Leo on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm.
