MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers dropped a tough 1-0 decision to the Rollins Tars to open their Sunshine State Conference softball series on Saturday night at Buccaneer Field.

The Tars (44-8, 16-6 SSC) plated a run in the first inning when Monica Meadows drew a leadoff walk and scored two outs later on a triple from Jamie Rausch that skipped past centerfielder Amber Durkin’s diving attempt.

Nicole Anderson (25-5) tossed the shutout for Rollins, holding the Bucs (30-17, 14-8 SSC) to just three hits and a walk while striking out four.

Amber Jack (20-10) was the hard-luck loser for the Bucs. She only allowed one hit, a Christine Roser double in the sixth, after the first inning and struck out 10.

Grace Collins had two hits for the Bucs, while Sara Hipson added a single.

The series concludes on Sunday with a doubleheader at 1:00 pm.
