BOCA RATON, Fla.— The Barry University women’s tennis team was unable to overcome SSC rival Lynn in the finals of the NCAA Division II National Tennis Tournament, losing 5-0.
The Knights (26-0) came out strong in doubles competition, taking all three matches to go up 3-0 on the Bucs. The team of Jessica Yanoff and Tessie Salame struck first, beating Julie Cadet and Mei-Jing Ang 8-2.
Caroline Wendling and Berit Peterson fell to the 24th ranked team of Alisson Siaci and Magdalena Ekert 8-2 in doubles two. While doubles three saw Angie Werschel and Yulia Kashelkina fall to the 5th ranked team of Eleonora Iannpzzi and Katerina Jiskrova 8-4 in doubles one.
In singles competition, two wins were all the Knights needed to take the match. In the sixth spot, Salame made quick work of Julie Cadet, beating her 6-2, 6-1 to bring the Knights within one point of the match.
Ekert wrapped it up for the Knights, beating Wendling 6-2, 6-2 in singles two.
With the loss, the Bucs ends their season with a 17-8 record.
