Men's Soccer Snuffs Florida Southern

LAKELAND, Fla.—In a matinée affair the Barry men’s soccer team blank the Florida Southern Moccasins with a 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Buccaneers Kendall Sealy, Mark Anderson, and Mark Kilpatrick posted goals against Florida Southern. Sealy led the way for Barry after Andres Perez passed to Sascha Koettig and Koettig’s shot found the post, Sealy’s aggressive follow up found the back of the net. The goal gives Sealy three on the season and two in the last two games. The assist for Koettig tallies him a team-leading five. Perez was also awarded an assist on the play which gives him four. Sealy’s goal came during the 23rd minute and was the only goal during the first half.

The second goal came from Bucs sophomore Mark Anderson. Barry was awarded a direct free kick from 30 yards out. Anderson bent a shot around the wall and under the Florida Southern goalkeeper just under 3:00 minutes after the start of the second half. The ninth goal on the season for Anderson ranks him third in the conference for total goals. Anderson also posted four shots. Anderson leads the conference in both shots and shots per game.

The third and final goal of the match came from another Barry junior, Mark Kilpatrick. During the 81st minute Barry senior Ryan Alexander lofted a corner kick to the far side of the goal box and Kilpatrick collectively headed the ball between the pipes. Kilpatrick’s header-goal is his first of the year. Alexander’s assist gives him four.

Freshman goalkeeper Johnny Rodrigues made five saves during the match. During the first half, Florida Southern tired to capitalize on a rebound from a Rodrigues save but Rodrigues somehow managed to put a hand on the ball that then deflected off the top crossbar. The goal would have left the game tied at the half.

The men’s soccer team has chosen an excellent time to start a winning streak. At 2-2 in conference, the Bucs sit in the middle of the pack but have four conference games left to play, two of which are against opponents that currently sit above Barry in the standings.

The next action for the Barry is at the friendly confines of Buccaneer Field against Florida Tech on Tuesday.
