MIAMI GARDENS, Fla.— After a 1-0 lead at the half, the sleeping giant that is the Buccaneer men's soccer attack awoke and produced four second-half goals in a 5-0 win on Friday against the St. Thomas Bobcats.
The five Barry goals were scored by two freshmen, Kendall Sealy and Joe Conkleton, and a sophomore Mark Anderson. Both Anderson and Sealy posted two goals each and Conkleton chipped in with one.
The first Anderson goal came during the 12th minute after he took a pass from Andres Perez and blasted the ball into the back of the net. Anderson’s shot came from 19 yards out between the middle of the box and the right edge. Anderson placed the ball close enough to the upper left 90 to just get by the St. Thomas keeper Aaron Jones.
The flood gates were opened after the second Anderson goal at the 64:33 mark. Anderson took a pass from Randy Taylor at midfield, took a couple dribbles and chipped the St. Thomas goalkeeper from almost 60 yards out. The perfect placement of the 60-yard shot gave the Bobcats goaltender no shot for a save. The assist was credited to Randy Taylor. The two goals give Anderson 12 in 13 games played.
Only 00:51 seconds after Anderson’s miraculous midfield goal, Barry freshman Kendall Sealy beat two St. Thomas defenders and snuck a shot under the keeper for a 3-0 Buccaneer advantage. Again Taylor fed Sealy for the assist on the goal from ten yards out.
Freshman Joe Conkleton found the first goal of his Barry career at the 74:21 mark. Conkleton, charging up the middle of the field, found a deflected pass from Ryan Alexander and rifled the ball for a score and a 4-0 lead with a little over 15 minutes to play.
The fifth and final Buccaneer goal came again from freshman Sealy. With remarkable similarities, again, Sealy took a Taylor pass into the right side of the box and fired a goal into the left side of the net. Sealy’s two goals rank him second on the team with five this season.
Taylor’s three assists ties the school record for assists in a game. With six assists in the past six games, Taylor is peaking at the best time of the year with only three conference games left to play.
The next game for Barry is on Monday, against another local team, Johnson and Wales. The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. The pregame broadcast starts at 6:30 on the Buccaneer Broadcasting Network.
