NOBLESVILLE, Ind.— The Barry University men’s golf team finished competition at the NCAA DII Men’s Golf Championship on Friday afternoon. The Bucs posted a fourth-round score of 297 to finish in 5th place with a team-total 1218 (314-304-303-297). Florida Southern used a final-round 307 to jump past Chico State to take the DII Golf National Championship.
The Bucs’ score this afternoon was their best of the tournament and the sixth best team total of the tournament.
Individually, Victor Billskoog led the Bucs in the tournament with a +11 299 (74-78-76-71). In the final round, Billskoog posted a 76, the Bucs’ second best of the day. Billskoog finished tied for eighth in the tourney.
Carlos Velez finished the four-round loop with a 13-over 301 (77-73-75-76). Velez was tied for 15th place after the third round, but climbed two spots to a 12th place finish overall.
For the remaining Buccaneers, Chris Carlin finished tied for 26th overall. Carlin posted a four-round total + 19 307 (82-76-78-71). Daniel Stapff posted a 28-over 316 (83-77-74-82) for the tournament, finishing tied for 54th. Guillermo Pumarol rounded out the Buccaneer finishers with a +30 318 (81-79-79-79).
SSC-rival Florida Southern took the win in the tournament with a +54 1206(303-292-304-307). In the final round, the Mocs’s 307 was enough to propel them from second after the third round into the top spot. Central Missouri moved up a spot from third to second after a final-round 304. They finished the tourney with a 1213 (73-75-71-72).
THIRD ROUND RESULTS
NOBLESVILLE, Ind.—The Barry University men’s golf team shot a combined fifteen-over 303 in the third round of the NCAA DII Men’s Golf Championship on Thursday afternoon. Through three rounds of play, the Bucs have a team-total 921 (314-304-303) and are in 7th place.
Thursday’s round was the Bucs’ best thus far in the tournament despite accounting for a combined 33 bogies and double bogies. The Bucs nailed 15 birdies and an eagle to make up for it.
Daniel Stapff led the Bucs in the third round by posting a two-over 74 for the day. Stapff started on the front nine with a +4 40, but was solid on the back nine with a 34. For the tournament, Stapff is tied for 58th place with a 234 (83-77-74)
Carlos Velez was three over for the day with a 75 (36-39). Velez was even on the front nine and three over on the back nine. He sank an eagle on 14 to aid in his day’s score. Velez is 12 over for the tournament and tied for 15th place with a 225 (77-73-75).
Victor Billskoog finished the day a stroke behind Velez with a +4 76 (40-36). Billskoog is tied for 28th place with a 228 (74-78-76) for the tournament. Chris Carlin finished the third round six-over with a 78 on the day, He is tied for 66th place with a 236 (82-76-78). Guillermo Pumarol rounded out the Buccaneer lineup with a +7 79. He is tied for 78th place with a total 239 (81-79-79).
In the team competition, Chico State moved past Florida Southern into the top spot after firing a 293 for the day. Chico State sits at one stroke better than Southern with a 898 (307-298-293). Sonoma, in second after yesterday, dropped to third with a 907 (313-291-303). Central Missouri is in fourth with a 909 (311-304-294) while Western New Mexico rounds out the top five with a 910.

SECOND ROUND RESULTS
NOBLESVILLE, Ind.—The Barry University men’s golf team wrapped up play at the second round of the NCAA DII Men’s Golf Championship on Wednesday afternoon, dropping one spot to a tie for 12th overall. The Bucs posted a second-round total 304 for a total 618.
The Bucs shot 10 strokes better than yesterday’s 314, but Indiana University of Pennsylvania fired a 302 in the second round to move up to a 10th place tie at a stroke better than the Bucs with a total 617.
“We got off to a good start today, but we let it slip away,” head coach Jimmy Stobs said. “We just made a few bad decisions.”
Individually, Carlos Velez led the Bucs with a one-over 73. Velez posted a 38 on the front nine that included two bogies and a 35 on the back nine with birdies on 10 and 12. Velez is tied for 12th overall with a 150 (77-73).
Chris Calrin was the next best finisher in the second round. Carlin fired a +4 76 (37-39) for the day. Carlin had birdies on one, six and ten, but had a double bogie on 12. Carlin is tied for 54th overall with a 158 (82-76).
For the remaining Buccaneers, Victor Billskoog is tied for 23rd overall with a 152. After firing a 74 yesterday, Billskoog shot a 78 (41-37) today. Guillermo Pumarol is tied for 66th overall. Pumarol has a total 160 (81-79). Daniel Stapff rounds out the Buccaneer players in a tie for 66th overall. Stapff has posted a 160 (83-77) through two rounds.
In the team competition, Florida Southern remains in the lead with a team-total 595 (303-292). Sonoma State jumped 12 places to move into a tie for second place with a 604 (313-291). Nova Southeastern (299-305) is tied with Sonoma State for second.
Individually, Ben Lasso of Queens University of Charlotte jumped a spot to take sole possession of the lead with a 143 (73-70). Cyril Bouniol of Abilene Christian and Kyle Souza are tied for second. Bouniol moved up from 20th place after the first round by posting a four-under 68 in the second round.
The Bucs begin the third round of play tomorrow morning. “We’re going to have to play extremely well in the last two rounds,” said Stobs. "They’re capable of doing that, and it’s never over until the tournament is over,” added Stobs.

FIRST ROUND RESULTS
NOBLESVILLE, Ind.—Bad weather had its toll on play at the first round of the NCAA DII Men's Golf Championship on Tuesday afternoon. The top-ranked Barry University men’s golf team wrapped up the first round of play in a tie for 11th place of 20 teams. The team combined for a first-round 314, 26 over par.
The teams faced difficult weather conditions in the morning as high wind, rains, and chilly temperatures played a part in the scores "They were very difficult conditions when we teed off," head coach Jimmy Stobs said. "The first two hours were rainy and cold."
Individually, Victor Billskoog led the way for the Bucs. Billskoog was three over on the front nine but one under on the back nine including a birdie on 15. He finished tied for sixth, having fired a +2 74 (39-34) on the first day.
Carlos Velez was the next best for the Bucs. He finished five over for the day with a 77 (36-41). Velez hit a dangerous double bogie on 15 but made up for it with birdies on one and nine. He is in tied for 29th place after the first round.
For the remaining Buccaneers, Guillermo Pumarol posted a +9 81 (41-40). He is tied for 64th place. Chris Carlin posted a ten-over 82 (45-37) to tie for 76th place while Daniel Stapff posted a +11 83 (43-40) to tie for 81st on the day.
"We have to remain patient and stick to our game plan," Stobs said about the Buccaneers' play. "It's just the first quarter and we have to look ahead."
In the team competition, two Barry-rivals find themselves atop the leader board after the first round. Nova Southeastern is in first with a +11 299 while Florida Southern is in second with a 15-over 303. Ferris State trails Nova by Florida Southern by two strokes with a 305.
Individually, Nova’s Ben Vertz leads the pack. Verts shot an even 72 (37-35). Four players are a stroke back from Vertz. Ben Lasso of Queens University of Charlotte, Eric Lilleboe of Ferris State, Patricio Salem of Lynn, and Justin Yoder from Central Missouri each shot a plus-one 73.
