CARROLLTON, Ga.— The Barry University volleyball team dropped two regional matches at the GSC-SSC Crossover this afternoon. In the first match of the afternoon, Barry dell 3-0 to North Alabama. In the afternoon match, the Bucs dropped a three-set loss to West Alabama.

In the afternoon match, the Bucs fell 3-0 (29-27, 25-22, 25-19) to North Alabama. In the first set, the Lions jumped out to an 8-4 lead before the Bucs caught them to tie it up at 13 apiece. The teams were tied late at 27-27 before North Alabama took the final two points for the 29-27 overtime win.

In the second set, Barry bounded out to a 13-6 lead after being tied 5-5. Alicia Guerrero, Tania Torres, and Libby Walter had kills in the run while Guerrero added a pair of aces. Barry maintained the lead before the Lions caught them to tie it at 22-22 late. North Georgia took the final three points, off a pair of kills and a Buccaneer error, for the 25-22 win.

In the third set, the Lions dominated early play with a 16-9 lead. The Bucs rebounded, however, taking six-straight points to get within one, 16-15. Yet the Lions proved too strong in the end, taking set three 25-19.

In the afternoon match, the Bucs dropped a 3-0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-23) match to the West Alabama Tigers. The first set was all West Alabama as the team outhit the Bucs .237 to 0.97. The Tigers stormed out to a 12-4 lead and went on to take set one25-13.

In the second set, the Tigers improved their hitting percentage to .321 to tackle the Bucs 25-15.

The Buce returned with intensity for the final set, hanging with the Tigers through the end of the match. The teams improved points back-and-forth through 9-9 before West Alabama went on a 6-2 run to take a 15-11 lead. The Bucs fought back, getting as close as 24-22, but were unable to take down the Lions.

For the afternoon, Torres led the Bucs with 20 kills while Lanie Muys posted 11. Mima Hajdukovic paced the Bucs with 33 assists and Walter led the defense with 15 kills.
