MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers got their first win of the season 85-73 over the Tarzans of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez in the Health & Sports Center on Wednesday night.

With the game tied at 19-19 at 12:26 in the first half, the Tarzans went on a 20-6 over the next 5:30 minutes. Noel Caban capped the run with a three-pointer, giving the Tarzans a 39-25 with 6:57 left.

The Bucs (1-2) responded by scoring the next 12 points, led by four points by Bryan Van Cott. Justin McCoy hit a pair of free throws with 2:19 left in the period to trim the lead to 39-37, but Mayaguez carried a 44-39 lead into the break.

The Tarzans (0-4) pushed the lead to 57-50 with 15:05 remaining, but the Bucs finally clicked into gear, going on a 18-9 run over the next 7:30 minutes, taking a 68-66 lead on a jumper by Jermaine Edwards with 6:36 left in the game. They carried on with the run, extending the lead to 82-68 on a pair of free throws by Keion Palmer with 1:19 to play and held on for the 12-point win.

Chad Renfro led the Bucs with 22 points, while Edwards chipped in with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Palmer narrowly missed a triple-double, scoring 13 points and added nine rebounds and a school-record eight blocked shots. The eight blocks bettered the mark of seven accomplished on three occasions.

Alexander Molano led the Tarzans with 15 points, Juan Ramos had 13, Caban added 11 and Robby Mercado had 10.
