MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—Barry University’s baseball team completed a three game sweep of Eckerd Saturday afternoon after taking both games in the doubleheader 5-3, and 3-2.

Barry (9-8, 3-0 SSC) extended their winning streak to five games, are over the .500 mark once again, and opened conference play with three straight wins.

Kevin Youst took the mound for the Bucs in game one and scattered five hits in seven innings of work while only allowing three runs, two of which were earned. Although Barry jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning, the Tritons answered with a two run frame of their own to even the score in the sixth.

Eckerd took the lead with a run in the seventh after a sacrifice fly by Joey McLemore. In the eight Harold Holness led things off with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. After Luis Arrizurieta reached on a walk, Sheehan Planas wasn’t able to plate Holness and in stepped Adrian English.

English skied a ball to center field, but Bryant Gibson, who seemed to be camped under the ball, was not able to make the play and all three runners would come around to score giving the Bucs the 5-3 lead. T.J. Mullins (2-3) worked a scoreless eighth and ninth and struck out two to earn the win.

In game two, the Bucs handed the ball to right-hander Jordan Wellander. After surrendering an early run in the first inning, Wellander (3-2) found his rhythm and kept the Tritons in-check throughout the next five innings. The Bucs were finally able to break through in the fourth scoring two runs, one on an RBI single by Tim Blackmon and another on a double to deep left-center field by Bryant Elliott.

James Young singled to left in the seventh, driving in Planas to increase the deficit to 3-1. In the top of the seventh Wellander surrendered a single and a triple placing the tying run on third base with two outs, but T.J. Mullins came in relief to seal the victory and picked up his second save of the year.

The Buccaneers will take a short break from conference play when they host Adelphi University on Tuesday, before beginning a three game series at Saint Leo beginning on Mar. 16th.

Tuesday’s game is set to start at 6:00 p.m. with live-stat and audio broadcast coverage available through the Barry University athletics website, GOBARRYBUCS.COM.
