MIAMI SHORES, Fla.—The fourth-ranked Barry Buccaneers muzzled the NCAA Division I Georgetown Hoyas 7-2 in men’s tennis action at the Buccaneer Tennis Center on Friday.
The Bucs (11-0) won two of three doubles and five of six singles to stay unbeaten on the season.
Doubles was a nip-and-tuck affair. The Bucs’ second-ranked team of Marco Mokrzycki and Fabian Groetsch knocked off the Hoyas’ Charlie Caris and Casey Distaso 8-4 at number one, while Max Wimmer and Leo Vivas matched that score in beating Alex Tropiano and Shane Korber t number two. The Hoyas claimed the third flight, 8-5, as Reese Milner and Daniel Khanin beat Romain Costamagna and Ollie Lemaitre.
In singles, the Hoyas took the top flight, with Caris knocking off Wimmer 6-2, 7-5, but the Bucs won the rest. Groetsch defeated Milner 6-3, 6-3 at number two and Costamagna bumped off Distaso 6-3, 6-1 at number three.
At four, Eduardo Alfonso beat Korber 7-5, 6-2. Kevin Seilmann handled Tropiano easily 6-1, 6-1 at number five and Renato Lombardi closed out the match with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Kevin Katz at number six.
The Bucs continue their home stand with NAIA #2-ranked Auburn-Montgomery on Thursday, Mar. 14.
