LAKELAND, Fla.—The eighth-ranked Barry Buccaneers went into Lakeland, Fla., shorthanded after three defensive starters missed the game, and were clipped by the Florida Southern Moccasins 2-1 at Barnett Field.
The Bucs missed center back Amber Smith, right back Natalie Diaz and defensive center midfielder Tamara Vuckovich in the game for various reasons.
The Mocs (4-0-1) scored quickly, right out of the gate, as Aubrey Riggins tapped in a shot in the third minute. Kristy Legoas put in the game-winner in the 18th minute on a 30-yard shot from the left wing.
Lauren Manna trimmed the lead to one on a loose ball goal in the 22nd minute and neither team could dent the scoreboard again.
The Bucs (3-1-1) out-shot the Mocs 17-9, including 7-6 on goal. But FSC keeper Erin Moseley had six saves to earn the win. Becca Rogers made four saves, but allowed more than one goal in a regulation game since Oct. 6, 2012 against Rollins.
The Bucs will travel to Embry-Riddle on Tuesday, Sept. 24 to face the Eagles in the last tune up before Sunshine State Conference play starts on Sept. 27 at Eckerd.
