TAMPA, Fla.—The Barry Buccaneers kept their Sunshine State Conference women’s soccer hopes alive with a 3-0 win at #13 Tampa Spartans on Saturday night at Pepin Stadium.
The Bucs (11-3-1, 6-0-1 SSC) took a 1-0 lead in the first half in the 32nd minute. Chelsea Stoeckigt flicked a header over the Tampa defense and Lavinia Nkomo split the defenders and slotted a shot past Alysson Gregorowicz in goal.
Barry added a pair of second half goals. In the 71st minute, Nkomo lifted a cross from the right wing over the Spartan defense and Lauren Manna ran on for a 1-on-1 chance against Gregorowicz and knocked home the goal.
In the 89th minute, Tamara Vuckovich converted on a 20-yard free kick for the final margin.
The Bucs held a narrow 9-8 margin in shots, but put twice as many on goal. Becca Rogers had three saves for the Bucs, while Gregorwicz made two saves for Tampa (14-2-1, 4-2-1 SSC) and the defense also stopped a shot on goal.
The Bucs close out the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 2 against the Eckerd Tritons. The Bucs will honor their 2013 senior class before the game.
