WINTER PARK, Fla. – Barry University women’s tennis player Karina Goia became a double champion Sunday at the Varner Invitational.
Goia and partner Blanka Szavay defeated Barry teammates Kimmy Twelker and Elisabeth Abanda, 8-4, in the A Bracket doubles final at Rollins College.
Goia also won the top singles bracket, beating Nova Southeastern’s Sabrina Kierberg, 7-6, (7-0), 6-0, in the Flight A final.
It is the second straight year Goia has won a fall singles tournament.
In the D singles final, Barry’s Jasi Witherspoon fell to NSU’s Linda Kornienko, 6-2, 6-3.
Szavay was a 6-0, 6-2 winner over Rollins’ Zoe Monge in the B consolation final.
Barry’s Linda Fritschken and Emma Onila will compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Small College doubles championships Thursday through Sunday.
