Dept. of Communication now accepting applications for two major scholarships

The Department of Communication is now accepting applications for the Ann Bishop Memorial Scholarship and the Dwight Lauderdale Scholarship.

The Ann Bishop Memorial Scholarship

The Ann Bishop Memorial Scholarship is named after Ann Bishop, perhaps the most respected broadcast journalist in South Florida history. The scholarship is a $1500 award that will be presented at the March 19, 2012 Honors Ceremony.

Bishop had a stellar twenty-five year career exemplified by her professionalism, expertise and knowledge of local, national and international news.

Applicants must:

  • Be a third or fourth year student at Barry University majoring in Broadcast Communication and/or minoring in Journalism
  • Have achieved an overall GPA of 2.8 or over, 3.0 in major coursework
  • Scholarship is for $1500

The Dwight Lauderdale Scholarship

The Dwight Lauderdale Scholarship is named after longtime Dwight Lauderdale, a longtime news anchor at ABC’s South Florida WPLG affiliate. A total of $2500 will be awarded in both the spring and fall of 2012.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • A full-time, undergraduate who is a sophomore, junior, or senior at Barry University majoring in  Communication
  • Cumulative GPA minimum of 3.00
  • Preference will be given to Broadcast Communication majors or students with a minor in Journalism
