The Buccaneer and Department of Communication present STAY WOKE, a Speech and Debate Competition. Students will debate five speech prompts on topics related to Human Rights and Civil Liberties.
The 2021 Speech Prompts are as follows:
Congress should restore the full protections of the Voting Rights Act in states across America.

The United States should offer asylum to Haitian refugees at the southern border.
Position: YES or NO
Congress should outlaw state lawmakers from infringing on the Roe v. Wade ruling on abortion.
Position: YES or NO
College students should be allowed excused absences to care for their mental health.
Position: YES or NO
The United States should make COVID-19 vaccination mandatory.
Position: YES or NO
Preliminaries/Auditions will be held on Tuesday October 26. Register with Professor Tiffani Knowles at tknowles@barry.edu.
Contest Finals will be held at the David Brinkley Studio on Wednesday, November 17.
