The first group of 12 Barry Law School alumni were admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court at an induction ceremony on Nov. 28.

The induction ceremony was conducted by Chief Justice John G. Roberts and Lee Schinasi, Barry University professor of law, served as movant for the group. Following the swearing-in, Dean Leticia Diaz and the alumni were greeted by Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

On the eve of the induction, the alumni and their guests enjoyed a dinner at The Metropolitan Club in Washington D.C.  They were joined by Rod Heller, who spoke about the biography he authored on Felix Grundy titled Democracy’s Lawyer: Felix Grundy. Heller, a graduate of Harvard Law School and former partner in the well known D.C. law firm Wilmer, Cutler and Pickering, discussed Grundy’s impact on politics and the legal system in the early 1800s.

The alumni sworn in were Ada Aviles-Yaeger, Laura Ballard, Jessica Corrace, Eric DuBois, Betty Freeland, Dave Harris, Sultana Haque, Oneill Martinez, Monica Reyes, Rodd Santomauro, David Shontz and Joy Zubkin. Rob Witt, vice president of the Barry Law Alumni Chapter, coordinated the ceremony. Also joining the group was Kevin Cole, chair of the school’s Board of Advisors.
