Barry Law Receives A+ in Diversity by preLaw Magazine

(ORLANDO, FL) Barry University Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law has once again been named one of the nation’s Most Diverse Law Schools by preLaw Magazine.

Barry Law was ranked as the 6h-most-diverse law school in the United States and earned a grade of “A+,” and was the only law school in Florida to receive an A+ ranking this year, according to preLaw Magazine's winter 2021 issue.

The magazine has recognized the school for its diversity with an A+ designation multiple times since 2015. In addition, the magazine ranked Barry Law as one of the best schools for African American students (11th overall) and Hispanics (12th overall) in the winter 2018 issue.

The nation’s law schools are ranked according to diversity reflected in both faculty and student body, basing grades on how well each school matches with the U.S. average for each minority population. The magazine has used the same methodology since 2013, giving a school full credit when it reaches the national average and can receive up to 40% added value when its percentage is higher than the national average for each population.

Leticia M. Diaz, Dean of Barry Law, said the school’s A+ rating and No. 6 ranking are evidence of the success of the University’s overall mission-based approach to education, which includes an inclusive community.

“We are proud to once again be recognized by preLaw Magazine as one of the most diverse law schools in the country,” Diaz said. “Our legal system should be a reflection of the people in our society; diverse in backgrounds, ideas, and viewpoints, and the only way to achieve that is through a diverse student and faculty population in law school.”

The Most Diverse Law Schools ranking appears in preLaw Magazine’s Winter 2021 issue, which can be viewed here.
