So you’re headed for college. Whether you picture it as inspiring like in Good Will Hunting or Rudy, world-changing like in Social Network, or filled with madcap pranks like in Van Wilder or (everyone’s favorite) Animal House – it’s not going to be like in the movies. It’s going to be even better. Especially if you’ve chosen Barry, where the classic liberal arts campus experience is alive and well.

Here you will discover your own personal script – you will learn how to think originally, engage with your peers and professors, foster a better community and world, and broaden your horizons in unexpected ways.

To start things off right, take advantage of our ‘Weeks of Welcome’ – six weeks filled with informative and exciting activities that will quickly have you feeling at home, confident and connected. The momentum then continues with a full calendar of events held throughout the year.

Check out the links below for a preview of what it’s like to attend school here – and to Live a Barry Life. Better yet, come experience it all in person.

Freshman Experience Day

Meet the entire Class of 2019 while engaging in fun activities, events, and community services projects.

Soccer Scrimmage/BBQ

The Barry Men’s Soccer team had their pre-season match against FAU following a tasty and delicious BBQ on Saturday, August 24th. Everyone got their pork on!

H2O Pool Party

The class of 2017 dived into a night of fun and excitement with a fabulous pool party. Students left feeling relaxed and ready for an amazing semester. There were smoothies, pizza, cabanas, and a DJ at the Penafort Pool on Saturday, August 24th, making it an amazing time.

New Student Investiture

Just like everyone went to prom, everyone got a warm welcome from Sister Linda Bevilacqua. She addressed all students and told them how important they are and how much life they bring to campus. Students received a traditional pin, a prayer card, and learned about the university’s core commitments on Sunday, August 25th.

University Block Party/Student Involvement Fair

Greet and get to know student leaders of more than 60 student organizations. Activities include games, attractions, novelties, give-a-ways, and student performances.

Comedy Slam

The semester’s first Comedy Slam is back, bigger, and better than ever! Last year, over 500 Barry students laughed their pants off to some of the best pro comedians we have ever had. This year, the line-up is totally unreal, with some of the hottest comedians from Jus’ Wiggin Entertainment. This show dares to be a classic!

Casino Night

Are you feeling risky? Don’t miss the chance to win great prizes and meet fellow Buccaneers!

Karaoke Night

If you thought they’d be laughing in the Comedy Slam, think again! Karaoke night, which is organized by university funded organizations (UFO), had students in tears after experiencing and listening to some of the worst performances of the year—perhaps even worse than Miley Cyrus at the VMAs. The hysterical and entertaining event was held at Bucky's Cove on Friday, August 30th.

GLO

Leave behind the bright neon of the Miami nightlife and immerse yourself in all white, the party to see and be seen - known as GLO!!! Hundreds of people will be there so take C.A.B’s advice, "e;Don’t just wear white...GLO!"e;

Mass of the Holy Spirit

The University community marks the beginning of the Academic Year by celebrating the Mass of the Holy Spirit followed by time to get social! This is a tradition dates back to the 16th century. Members of all faiths are invited to this common prayer for the Spirit's inspiration and guidance in living out our mission of educating leaders who will fashion a more humane and just world for all.

Community Engagement Fair

Interact with some of Barry’s community partners and discuss ways you can make a difference in the local community.

New International Student Welcome Reception

This is an opportunity for international students to socialize with other new and returning international students. In addition, this is a chance to meet new friends, and start your connections with the various student organizations and campus resources, all while enjoying snacks and refreshments.

College Brides Walk

Bring awareness to the problems of domestic and dating violence on and off college campuses by joining college students representing various campuses in South Florida by uniting and partaking in the 6-mile route for the Fifth Annual College Brides Walk on campus.

Homecoming

Celebrate a week full of events and don't miss a fusion of music, fashion, performances, and artistry. You’ll also get the chance to be photographed and attend a fabulous night at the Homecoming Dance!

Founder’s Week

Founders’ Week is a week’s worth tradition of activities that are fun and different. It is a collaborative effort among many divisions, departments, offices, and individuals that truly reflect the many ways in which we learn, reflect, and serve at Barry University. Traditions include a Distinguished Lecture Series, Founder’s Day Mass, Community Fest, Gobble Wobble, Plant the Campus Red, and Sync or Swim.

Faculty and Student Documentary Exhibition and Opening Reception

Join our Fine Arts Department the opening reception! Barry University’s Fine Art Faculty will be exhibiting their Art, Ceramics, Graphic Design, and Photography for all to enjoy. Current Photography Majors and Minors will be displaying their final projects from our ever popular Documentary Photography course. This work will be shown in the adjoining Student Gallery during the same time.

Health & Safety Fair

The Campus Health and Safety fair is an event where students can learn from the campus community around them on how to engage and become safer, well-balanced students in mind, body, and spirit. This event helps students become more aware of the surrounding environment and informed of the resources available to them.

Moon Light Madness

The evening will kick off with a tailgate party in the Landon Courtyard from 9:00-10:00pm with FREE food, music, games and prizes. At 10:00pm the Madness will continue in the gym with performances by the Xtreme Team Dunk Show, the Barry Dance Team, Cheerleaders, the Barry Step Team and more.

Community Fest

Barry University students, faculty, staff, and administrators are invited to a fun and festive afternoon of student performances, games, carnival snacks, and team competitions!

Athletics 30th Anniversary Fair

This year’s anniversary fair is fired up with games, food, and fun. Cheer on the Buccaneers as nationally ranked Men’s & Women’s Soccer teams kick off the party at Buccaneer field. Go Bucs!

Late Night Breakfast

Please join us to kick off Final Exam Week! Take a study break and come have breakfast served by faculty/ staff. Breakfast is complimentary. All students invited (no meal plan necessary).
