Dr. Tal Amasay prescribes exercise.

Dr. Tal Amasay is an Associate Professor at the Sport & Exercise Sciences Program, College of Nursing and Health Sciences. As a strong believer in the power of physical activity, Dr. Amasay’s efforts led to the registration and listing of Barry University as a member of the Exercise is Medicine® On Campus (EIM-OC) international initiative, February 2019. He currently serves as the Supervisor of Barry University’s EIM-OC leadership team, which includes the Sport & Exercise Sciences Program (SES), the Department of Campus Recreation & Wellness (CRW), and the Division of Student Health Services (SHS). EIM is a global health initiative managed by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM). The initiative encourages primary care physicians and other health care providers to include physical activity as part of treatment plans, while referring patients to evidence-based exercise programs with qualified exercise professionals. EIM belief is that physical activity promotes optimal health, is integral in the prevention and treatment of many medical conditions, and should be regularly assessed and included as part of health care. EIM-OC encourages faculty, staff, and students to work together toward improving the health and well-being of the campus community by making movement a part of the daily campus culture, assessing physical activity at every student health visit, providing students with the tools to strengthen healthy physical activity lifetime habits, and connecting university health care providers with university health fitness specialists to provide a referral system for exercise prescription. EIM-OC at Barry University is designed to engage the students, faculty, and staff in ongoing efforts to improve physical fitness, health and wellness across campus with the possibility for community outreach. SES students will take an integral part of EIM-OC initiative by supervising, leading, and prescribing exercises and activities to the Barry community.
