Barry University’s School of Podiatric Medicine hosted its 14th annual Residency Fair on Aug. 25. The fair, hosted by third-year students (class of 2020), provides an opportunity for residency programs across the country to present information about their respective programs to our junior students who will be choosing clerkship locations in fall 2018.
Each student in the class of 2020 will complete seven, one-month clerkships from May to December 2019 — six in different locations throughout Florida or around the U.S. and one home month at a Barry University School of Podiatric Medicine Foot & Ankle Institute location. Clerkships provide an opportunity for students to gain first-hand experience and insight into the programs while enhancing their didactic and clinical skills. Clerkships are valuable since student doctors interact directly with residency directors, residents and coordinators who will be vital contacts when applying for residency.
Thirty-five programs from across the country were represented at the Residency Fair, including programs from Florida, New York, California and more. Although the fair is designed for third-year students, first-and-second-year students were invited as well, resulting in a total attendance of 75 students.
