Several South Florida Universities Expected to Participate in Symposium
Several South Florida colleges and universities are expected to participate in Barry University’s third annual Community Engagement Symposium on March 30 on Barry’s main campus in Miami Shores.
Proposals for presentations during concurrent sessions will be accepted from Florida Campus Compact member institutions located in
Florida Campus Compact (FL|CC) is part of a national organization of college and university presidents who are committed to helping students develop the values and skills of active citizenship through participation in public and community service.

The proposal submission deadline for the 2016 symposium is January 22.

Award Categories Include Service-Learning Faculty
Service-Learning Faculty is one of the seven categories of community engagement awards for which nominations are being accepted.
The Service-Learning Faculty Award recognizes faculty members for exemplary integration of community service into the curriculum or for demonstrating excellence in using service-learning as a teaching and learning strategy. Instructors of SL-designated courses are prime candidates for this award.
In addition to Service-Learning Faculty,the categories of awards are Community Impact, Community Partnership, Community-Based Research, Engaged Scholarship, Community Engagement Educator, and Engaged Department.
The third annual Community Engagement Awards will be held on March 30, 2016. The nomination deadline is January 29.

Students and Employees Urged to Participate in 75 Acts of Service
As part of Barry University’s 75th Anniversary Celebration, the Center for Community Service Initiatives (CCSI) is facilitating 75 Acts of Service throughout the 2015–2016 academic year. This is a coordinated series of community service opportunities through which the University is reaffirming its commitment to collaborative service with the community.
A major goal of this initiative is to have 100 percent participation of Barry faculty, staff, and students. Each student and employee is urged to participate in at least one act of collaborative service this academic year. Barry alumni and other community members will take part in some of the projects.
For the purposes of this initiative, an act of service is a community service project or event, or a community service activity as part of a larger project or event. A small number of campus-based projects that benefit the wider community are included in the list of opportunities for service.
The CCSI has prepared a complete list of opportunities for service.

Service-Learning Faculty Survey Closes December 11
The university-wide service-learning faculty development survey will close on Friday, December 11.
The service-learning faculty fellows in the Center for Community Service Initiatives (CCSI) is conducting the survey to determine the level and extent of professional development support currently needed by faculty for the implementation of service-learning. The results of this brief survey will be used primarily for planning and delivering service-learning workshops.
