Devon Lewis-Buchanan

Barry University’s School of Social Work offers a great learning environment with amazing educators. Barry provides an advanced trauma-informed curriculum at a pace tailored to its students. As a professional student, I was looking to advance my career while having the option to attend Saturday courses. I found that the flexibility of working while learning provided me the balance I was looking for. Overall, the strength of Barry’s School of Social Work is by far its faculty. The work they do as educators, advisors, and mentors truly uplifted and molded me to be honored as the recipient of the 2020 NASW-FL Student of the Year."

Applications will be accepted through December 1, 2020. MSW Orientation is scheduled for January 9, 2020, and all MSW classes start the week of January 11, 2020.

What is the timeline for degree completion?

Students will enroll in trauma-informed courses starting with generalist practice foundation-level courses followed by an advanced clinical practice concentration. Students are required to take two courses per 12-week semester and complete 1000 hours of field education training over the course of the program, meaning most students complete the degree in approximately 28 months.

What is the cost of the program?

The Online MSW degree program costs $599 per credit. We encourage you to speak to one of our dedicated financial aid officers, as financial assistance may be available. To book a one-on-one appointment with our in-house Financial Aid specialist, please visit: www.barry.edu/sswbooking.

How will the program prioritize individual attention and mentorship through online delivery?

We created our Online MSW program to maintain specific focus on advancing each student’s clinical practice. As such, direct feedback and dedicated instruction is paramount to the program mission. Our faculty are a key factor in delivering a top-notch program in an engaged, online format. While coursework and fieldwork may be completed within your existing schedule, you will participate weekly in live virtual sessions with peers and professors. These sessions mirror the face-to-face experiences gained through traditional on-campus programs. Additionally, your professors are experts in their fields and will guide you both in your studies and your search for meaningful field placements that align with your individual strengths and goals.

Is There A Difference Between The In-Person And Online Msw Experience?

Our online programs provide you with the same access to our award-winning faculty through "real-time" synchronous sessions. These programs are designed to ensure that Barry University School of Social Work students receive more than just a degree, but the opportunity to become part of the Barry community of students, educators, and alumni. Our online programs will have several synchronous meetings. Rather than 3.5 hours in person, you will be a part of a 90-minute "real-time" academic experience.
