NEW YORK -- Barry University men's golf team is ranked No. 1 in the nation.
The Buccaneers received six of the 17 first place votes in the Golf World/Nike Division II College Coaches' poll to take over the top spot. Nova Southeastern, who previously owned the No. 1 ranking, received nine first place votes, but fell two points shy of Barry's 398.
South Carolina-Aiken is third, Florida Southern fourth and Abilene Christian fifth.
This marks the second time in the 2012-13 season the Bucs earned the No. 1 ranking. Barry won its first tournament of the season at the Matlock Classic in Lakeland Feb. 11-12.
Monday and Tuesday the Buccaneers will compete in the St. Edward's Invitational at Grey Rock Golf Club in Austin, Texas. Last year, the Bucs finished second out of 17 teams in the Texas event field as departed senior Daniel Stapff, who's now playing professionally on the Latin America PGA Tour, won the individual title.
