The Barry University Libraries are very pleased to announce the rollout of a new and extremely powerful information search tool called SUMMON.
SUMMON is an award winning search technology known as a “unified discovery system.” As a customized system, SUMMON has been configured to simultaneously search virtually all Barry University Library full text databases, the Library’s online Catalog and other proprietary online databases in one “Google-like” search. The Barry University Libraries offer students, faculty, and staff a vast selection of full text databases and information resources, and SUMMON is capable of quickly searching all these resources to “discover” articles, books, media, etc. that are not necessarily easy to locate. SUMMON search results can be easily refined, limited, and sorted to find just the right information resource that users are looking for. Citation results can be reformatted to specific citation style formats such as APA, MLA, and Chicago to assist in the creation of bibliographies.
The SUMMON project has been a joint effort of the Law Library and the Monsignor William Barry Memorial Library. The staffs of both Libraries have worked for over a year on the project on system planning, selection, implementation and testing. The libraries will continue to refine and improve the SUMMON system as technologies evolve and new information resources are added to the library collections.
