Barry University’s nursing program has been ranked No. 26 among the list of the top 50 four-year nursing programs in the country by Accredited Schools Online. Barry is one of only two universities to make the list. The University of Miami is ranked No. 40.

This ranking affirms the continued excellence of our faculty, our curriculum, and our students,” said Dr. John McFadden, dean of the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. “We offer a variety of learning platforms —from traditional to hybrid to online. We are committed to using these and other innovative approaches to make our programs available to a wide, diverse community.”
To make the list, schools were required to meet the following criteria:
- Accredited at the institutional level
- Specialized accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing
- Private or nonprofit public school
- Minimum one bachelor’s or master’s degree in subject are for four-year schools
- Minimum of one associate degree or certificate program in subject area for two-year schools
According to Accredited Schools Online, nursing programs were scored on a number of factors and then given a peer-based-value (PBV) calculation, which compares the cost of other programs with the same (or similar) qualitative cost.
Scoring factors included:
- Average NCLEX pass rate of graduating students
- Cost and financial aid
- Number and variety of program offerings
- Student-teacher ratios
- Graduation rates
- Placement and support services offered
- Academic/career counseling services
- Employment services
- Loan default rates
