Thirty-two Barry BMS graduates enroll into Tufts University School of Dental Medicine’s fall class of 200

Each year, Tufts University receives approximately 7,000 applications for admittance into its School of Dental Medicine. Out of the thousands of applications received, approximately 200 students enroll in the first-year class. For fall 2018, 32 graduate students from Barry University’s master’s in Biomedical Sciences (BMS) program enrolled into Tufts University School of Dental Medicine, making up 16 percent of the entering fall dental class.

“Tufts University School of Dental Medicine is one of the top-regarded and oldest programs in the country. I am truly thankful for our continued collaboration with Tufts and their administrators, faculty and staff; they are a collection of outstanding individuals,” said Dr. Sathees Chandra, director of Barry’s Biomedical Sciences program. “In Barry’s Biomedical Sciences program, we provide a solid academic foundation and offer a second chance for our students to attain their professional school goals. At Tufts, the amazingly student-friendly faculty and staff provide genuine care and a perfect environment for our students to further strengthen their full potential.”

Since 2014, more than 65 graduate students from Barry’s BMS program have enrolled into Tufts School of Dental Medicine. That number is due to the strong relationship between Barry and Tufts, as well as the preparation and education Barry students receive in the BMS program, which has been ranked No. 1 by GraduatePrograms.com for the past two years.

“Looking back, I realize that Barry’s BMS program prepared me for dental school and I am so grateful. The courses taught at Barry were all extremely similar to the way these courses are taught at Tufts, so I was more than prepared to enter dental school,” said Barry graduate and Tufts dental student Samantha Sauers. “It was also a relief to be at Tufts with students who also attended the same master’s program, so we could talk about our experiences and study together with our old notes as it was easier to assimilate into the dental school environment. Barry’s BMS program is wonderful for future dental students to consider.”

Joseph Dudlek, also a Barry BMS graduate and dental student at Tufts, credits Barry for preparing him to make the necessary adjustments that would help him get into and succeed at Tufts. Knowing that other Barry graduates would be joining him at Tufts, Dudlek says he was able to hit the ground running.

“Many commonalities exist between Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and Barry University Biomedical Sciences Master’s program. The greatest similarity between the two is the academic atmosphere, both catering to a supportive learning environment with little to no competitive nature amongst students,” Dudlek says. “Both universities provide personalized support from faculty that genuinely care about their student’s success and well-being.”
