Voigt, a registered nurse, returned to school to earn her Master of Science in Nursing and Nurse Educator degree. The $2,000 scholarship will be used to pay for courses and books for Voigt, who holds a CGPA of 3.70.

“Ms. Voigt is a meticulous and enthusiastic student with a true love for the profession of nursing,” said Claudette Spalding, Division of Nursing Chair and College of Health Sciences Associate Dean.

Upon graduation in December 2010, Natalie plans to secure a position as a faculty member in a school of nursing where she will pursue her dream of being a nurse educator.

“I am both honored and grateful to be the first recipient of the Kathleen Papes scholarship studies,” said Voigt.

The Kathleen Papes, EdD Current-use Scholarship in Nursing was established in 2008 in the memory of Dr. Kathleen Papes whose career was one of leadership and advocacy for the nursing profession.

This scholarship is awarded to qualified applicants regardless of race, religion, sex, or national origin. Through this scholarship, Barry University honors Dr. Papes’ dedication to the education of expertly trained nurses in service to individuals and families.
