WIRELESS COVERAGE PROGRESS UPDATE
Wireless services were turned on early this morning in the residence halls where we were able to complete the installation of wireless access points, and include Mottram-Doss, Sage, Flood, Dalton and Dunspaugh, Benincasa, Kolasa and Weber. We anticipate that the remaining handful of halls will be ready within the next week or so as we continue to work through several unexpected challenges.
WHAT’S NEXT
Beginning Wednesday, August 26, the existing access points on campus will be replaced with new ones. As this happens, wireless devices, including laptops and smartphones, will need to be reconfigured to connect to the wireless network. Staff members from DCS will be available to assist with any challenges faculty and staff may have connecting. Please use the normal support channel in your area for communicating any issues.
Laptops can be “auto-configured” using a new tool called XpressConnect. To do so:
· View the available wireless networks and select Connect to Barry Wireless,
· Open a web browser and the XpressConnect configuration page will appear.
· Follow the instructions on the screen, and your computer will be automatically configured and connected to the wireless network.
· You will automatically reconnect to the wireless network once you return to a wireless area on campus, and do not need to run through the configuration process again.
The schedule of access point replacements is provided in the table below. Once the access points have been replaced, the map found here shows the wireless coverage that will be available on the Miami Shores campus by August 28, 2009
