ACE's Dr. Andrea Allen and Dr. James Shultz travel to Barbados to provide disaster preparedness consulting
In March, ACE's Dr. Andrea Allen (third from right) and Dr. James Shultz (second from left) traveled to Barbados to provide local professoinals and government officials with disaster preparednes consulting.

In March, Dr. Andrea Allen, associate dean of Academic and Student Affairs at ACE, and Dr. James M. Shultz, assistant academic coordinator of Emergency Management at ACE and director of the Disaster and Extreme Event Preparedness (DEEP) Center at the University of Miami, traveled to Barbados and spent a week consulting with local professionals and government officials about disaster preparedness and response. Allen and Shultz presented their co-authored disaster health framework, Safety Function Action, while placing a special emphasis on the particular cultural needs of the citizens of Barbados.

The trip was co-sponsored by the Barbados Professional Association of Social Work and the Barbados Department of Emergency Management and funded by the Florida Association for Volunteer Action in the Caribbean and the Americas, Inc. (FAVCA; favaca.org).
